Frequently Asked Questions
How does BookBarter work?
Post a book you're done reading, browse books near you, and request a swap. If the other person accepts, you chat to arrange a meetup and trade books in person. No shipping needed — just meet up and swap.
Is BookBarter free?
BookBarter is currently free to download and use — there are no fees to swap books. As the app grows, we may introduce optional features or ways to support the project, but swapping books will always remain accessible.
How do I post a book?
Tap the "Add Book" button, take a photo of your book (or choose from your gallery), fill in the title, author, condition, and category, then tap "Post". Your book will be visible to nearby users immediately.
How far can I search for books?
You can set your search radius from 10 km to 200 km. The distance to each book is shown on the listing so you know exactly how far it is.
How do I arrange a meetup?
Once a swap is accepted, use the in-app chat to coordinate. You can share a meeting location directly in the chat by tapping the location icon. We recommend meeting in public places.
Can I cancel a swap?
Yes. You can cancel an outgoing swap request at any time before it's accepted. If a swap has been accepted, you can still cancel, but we encourage communicating with your swap partner first.
How do I delete my account?
Go to your Profile, tap the settings icon, scroll to "Account", and tap "Delete Account". This will permanently remove your profile, book listings, and all associated data. You can also email [email protected] to request deletion.
How do I report a user or listing?
On any book listing or user profile, tap the flag/report icon. Select the reason for your report and submit. Our team reviews all reports and takes appropriate action.
What book conditions are available?
Books can be listed as: Like New, Good, Fair, Acceptable, Poor, or Well-Loved. Choose the condition that best describes your book so the other person knows what to expect.
